First of all - shame on you for posting such a photo in the middle of winter! So, you slide this thing open to let the sun in? :) I guess it is in Crete?
Since you are genius enough to locate it then I want your comment about the owner's taste in shutters. Especially since he had a nice traditional option as you can see behind that "thing" :)
The silver colored frame looks like the crappy flimsy window frames we had in China. (They ramble with the slightest puff of wind).
Sure they are ugly, but on the other hand I admire the fact that the owner makes do with other materials. When everything is in one style a place can become a little like plastic, something overdecorated. (Like the castles in Dubai..) There is something to be said for this sollution. But yes, it's ugly.
Marianne I am not the most fanatic about tradition etc but this is the worst way to screw up the old looks. You know people like to complain about politics, financial problems and stuff but when it comes to what they do themselves they usually come up with a fuck up like this ;) And of course they are never to blame you know...
Maybe it's because I travelled too much to the socalled developing countries where people are very inventive with materials etc., but sometimes esthetics fly out to the window. (pun intended). And Holland is just too organized, here that guy would probably get fined or otherwize he has to fill in 100 forms (in 3-fold) to apply for subsidy for traditional shutters. But they have to fire-proof etc. etc.
