(continued from Episode 6)
It's my 3rd time here at the lovely little town of Heeze (better say village but not sure how the Dutch standards go) therefore one could expect not much of surprises. Indeed, but every single time I come here I feel like home. This settlement is cute, clean, people are cool and kind, it's dead easy walkable and cyclable but that's what the Netherlands are about. If it wasn't for the weather this country would feel as if it came out of my best dreams. Even the fact that it's flatter than flat therefore easily boring for a Greek like me (Hellas is way more mountainous than most people abroad think) it offers so much urban beauty that's beyond making it up for it.
While my friends/owners of the house I stay at enjoy their vacations in the European South I take care of their house and it definitely takes care of the peace of my mind. A garden, a pool, several fruity trees, vegetables, fresh eggs from 4 chickens daily, what more can I ask for?
This year I got my bonus. I luckily managed to taste the last 2 apricots. Gee... sincerely best ones ever. And I've tried fantastic ones back home over the years. Unbelievable stuff. I forgot their leftovers in house for an hour and when I went to clean up the house was smelling better than paradise. Not that I know the latter but that's how I'd like it to smell when that day comes. Actually if it does smell like that I'd be tempted to start looking forward to that day.
Only luck as they are in the hands of my friends and mine. I also did some minor repairs to their ren:
The black zip tie comes from stuff I carry with me in case I have to fix something on my bike. How could I ever imagine that chickens would be the target instead of my iron horse. Well deserved, they give me 4 eggs daily. Gotta payback.
Not a bad life at all to have free fresh organic eggs waiting you at your door. One of the neighbours fixed my lack of egg cases big time:
So nice people. I told you they're cool didn't I? Hard to be cool as my friends though. You can tell by their taste in beer:
I'm first timer on this one, it's got whiskey, tastes killer but unfortunately couldn't find it anywhere around here. I doubt I will back home but never say never. Dum spiro spero.
Meanwhile I changed the oil and cleaned the filter on my bike which now is ready for new rides except although it will need a new front tire by the time I'll be back over Greek soil again. More than happy with my DIY chain oiler which on its first long trip seems to work like a charm.
Life's great here, I wish yours is too. See you on the next one!
