The HIVE Tour - Episode 6: Weather madness!

What I experience here in Serbia outside Belgrade is meteorological insanity and I could almost believe that it's just how things are here but locals tell me it's far from a typical Serbian May so I guess I'm lucky to experience a rarity.

What's so rare? Well, today is the first day I've seen the sun ever since I entered the country 10 days ago. Seeing the sun brought a 10C increase in temperature. Yesterday I had the heating on, today I had to turn cooling on regardless how much I tried to convince myself not to. Yesterday I had to wear thick long sleeve indoors while as I type these lines now I only wear... my skin actually 🙂

And the "fun" doesn't end here. You think that's it and Spring is here for good? Nope. Another 10C drop in temperature tomorrow with rain for another couple of days before it rises about another 10C on Friday. I have a friend in Belgrade excited to show me around and we haven't managed to find a weather slot to do so yet.

I am afraid it's not just a Serbian thing. A friend of mine at Southern California posted on Instagram her winter outfit yesterday cause... she just had to wear it. Seems like the world is effed up in more than one ways...

Now worries though, that's 1st world problems. A couple of borders East of me people are dying on a daily basis in trenches. And dying might not be the worst thing that can happen to you there. So in this contradictory world I take the chance to have some rest time here which is very welcome after the rain torture I had trying to arrive a couple of days ago.

And what do I do during rest days? My favourite hobby: cooking improvisations. Ladies and gents, put your hands together for those delicious tortellini ala Orestis:

These are fresh tortellini stuffed with ricotta and spinach. I cut some rucola, I added some blue cheese and for the first time ever I tried a bit of tzatziki sauce in a pasta dish. I had a tiny bit of doubt for the latter but as soon as the first spoonful arrived on my tongue I was more than happy. Great stuff, try it out.

When I travel I try to book places allowing me to work on my bike if I have to and the one I'm staying at the moment has HUGE space for such stuff. One of the most VFM place I've ever rented, might dedicate a post about it later. Here's my bike going under some minor fixes/treatments from my hands:

If the above area looks like an outdoor kitchen to you it's only because...it really is:

Yep, this thing has two kitchens! Today was the time to use the outdoor one taking the chance to catch some sun. Not only me, snails seem to feel just the same:

I gotta say at this point that Serbian snails tend to be huge. The one above looks like most of the myriads that are around and if you compare its size with the stair it tries to climb you get an idea of how big it is.

The oven did a nice job grilling some meat for me:

Plus this pair of potatoes that I put under those slices of pork:

I am drooling at the view of my dish:

The only cacophony on this sweet meal is the shitty mustard I bought from the supermarket. I had only two choices and both looked crappy. Probably because both are but I'm not gonna try the other anyway.

Now I have to wait for another dark, cloudy, rainy, miserable, (you name it) day to pass
till I get the chance to walk around Belgrade.

I'll be more than happy to show you around too so stay tuned!
