On the road (part 4)

Weather is still cold for the local standards but at least it's slightly warmer and less pale than the previous days which makes rider and camera a little happier.

South of Nydri I make a stop by this boat which is out for maintenance to enjoy the sea view. It's colder than the image "shows" but the view warms me up:

I am easily attracted by empty beaches and it's effortless to find them around this time of the year with such temperatures:

On the other side you can still see a bit of snow on the peaks:

The peninsula you see in the background is where I'm heading to - how bad can it be?:

Right before entering this peninsula I see the following swamp so I stop for a few shots:

Kinda odd thing but I liked the sound of the birds who have their playground there. At least as long as the low traffic of this season allowed me to enjoy their audio.

I do my first meters in this peninsula on the East side of the island and here's the first view point looking West to Vlycho :

Here's full view without the bike:

A couple of minutes later on the North tip of the peninsula I find this neglected property with view:

Time for a U turn as that's the end of this road and explore the rest of the peninsula going South. Not a bad route actually:

But still, nothing compared to what I see as I arrive at the next view point:

You like that bay? FYI it's called Desimi but could also be named Fanfuckingtastic:

Especially when decorated by her majesty Spring:

Hard to take my eyes off this beauty but I have to ride on:

Heading South the next beach (Alonaki ) is not bad either:

The only issue in this heaven is that the East coastal route of this peninsula is mainly rough gravel and I struggle to keep my bike upright with my almost worn street tires. However, I keep riding South intending to make it to the very South End but a steep uphill with loose stones forces me to make a non flattering yet necessary and sane U turn.

I leave the peninsula behind to head North West aiming to visit this waterfall. The route is nice going up the mountain with extremely tight hairpins even for a motorcycle (watch video at the end). It's a very steep slope I have to go up and feels like it takes and age riding on very narrow roads covered by trees. As I am close to my destination I meet this sign:

I know, it's all Greek to you. It literally means "Irish crossing" and actually means that when it rains the road is crossed by a stream so you have to take a lot of care and make sane decisions on whether you should continue or not. Well, in this case that stream really took its toll on the road. The following images don't really speak about the inclination and the intensity of destruction but will give you an idea.

This one is taken as I have my feet on where part of the road has moved and my bike is where this road should be:

Here's what on can see where the road used to be:

Pieces of the tarmac thrown away like dumped carpet:

At least this gave me the chance of a picture of my iron horse from an angle that is impossible on a normal road unless you enter a manhole:

The following video sums up the day:
