My first sleep in this agricultural rural corner of East Croatia SE of Zagreb was hard to get any better. The studio I rent is brand new, and while it's tiny, it sets the bar really high when it comes to taking advantage of the available space. It's got a bathroom that can embarrass even medium houses and the owner even managed to fit an ironing board in it! Not that I use one but just saying...
Moody weather means less excursions and more indoor time which equals to more cooking time. More than happy to do so since this tiny thing even has an (almost) fully equipped kitchen. The stuff here is so brand new that I even have the honour and privilege to unbox this IKEA peeler 🙂
You don't expect me to do an unboxing video of a peeler right? Besides, there's more interesting things to focus on, like this stork that just arrived for a few seconds hence I only manage these two rough shots:
Not all is great with this place though. One thing really sucks and that's internet. Instead of commenting about it (which is hard) have a look at the upload speed:
Yep, that's less than half a Mbps. Imagine how this feels trying to upload a 5GB+ video...
So let's go back to cooking. Who's hungry? Small cabbages, potatoes and parsley are in the hot pot:
Then they are joined by rice and later red lentils:
When it's all boiled and done my dish is ready:
In a weather like this with a full stomach at such a quiet corner of this planet you feel like you can sleep for ages. Here's the main junction in this brief video where you here more birds than cars:
But if I sleep all day you'll have nothing to see and I will have nothing to remember. So, get ready cause as long as it doesn't rain it's a good idea to see what's around.
Some guys have interesting taste in colouring their houses here:
And others just go with bare bricks and no paint like this one on the right, something that is far from rare here:
This next one on the left looks old and unloved but its garden is neat so it must be lived - feels a little weird but interesting in any case:
With so much rain around here annually vegetation flirts with jungle standards. There are houses conquered by the Green majesty like this abandoned one:
Look at its water well - the whole thing feels cartoonish:
The house next to it is also camouflaged behind vegetation but the difference in its age and maintenance is beyond obvious:
New vs Old:
The same old one vs another new:
Interesting to see how things evolve in the progress of time...
This drain canal goes all the way uncovered like this making me wonder how many cars it has swallowed over the years:
Cute one:
Old vs New reloaded:
That old one feels to me like it could be coming from a Western movie:
There's houses behind this green madness:
Nature has done a much better job than humans here:
One more house with many stories to tell:
The images I harvest during this walk still feel cartoonish to me:
Another neglected one:
Just like this next one which hides its shame behind the trees:
On a pale day like this colours are more than welcome:
Ladies and gents, brace cause after all this walk I meet the first two legged being so far - not a talking one though:
Shades of green under the miserable grey dark sky:
This thing with the bare bricks and concrete feels to me like a grain of sand in my eye:
I told you the area is very agricultural didn't I?
I might be on foot but this route is a pleasant ride too:
Abandoned properties catch my attention with such ease:
My second encounter with two legged beings is just around the corner:
If I am not mistaken this is the first house I see with a smoking chimney so far:
Though it's early June I can understand why. These days are crazy cold and miserable even for the local standards. As for my standards, this is like gloomy winter in Athens while in theory we are in the beginning of summer.
Still, there's interesting stuff to see. That's so much different than my Mediterranean routes by all means:
Cute water well in a cute house:
Bare bricks re-reloaded:
If you allow nature to do its job here uninterrupted then this is what happens to your property:
Who knows when it was the last time this gate opened:
Did I go a little too far? It seems so. Time to walk these several km back to have some rest before it rains again.
See you on the next one!
