The HIVE Tour - Episode 32 - A 5km walk up to Bayreuth to visit its garden and palace

As my days here at St Johannis East of Bayreuth are not infinite I take the chance today to visit the city's center even though that's 5km away from the place I stay. However, it's a rather pleasant walk as it's a very pedestrian and cycle friendly route as you can see:

With some beautiful houses to see on the way:

I see that the view on the other side is not bad either:

So decide to cross the street. This must be the largest traffic light button I've experienced:

And the view is sweet indeed on this nice sunny day:

Interesting cycle track too,

but I'm heading the opposite way so I take this instead:

Enjoying the view to the otherside but from the shade of mine:

This poor thing manages to stay somehow cute despite that it's sealed and unused:

Is it part of this complex?

I might spend time on it on my way back. Now I have a long way ahead of me.

Wish we had as much care shown for traffic noise in Athens but it's only few highways with sound proof walls while here this is the norm:

Still a long way to go:

This ladies and gents is the local Gymnasium:

Interesting to see a mix of old and other more modern/average buildings here:

While it was all neat so far, time to face the first graffiti that make Bayreuth look like Athens:

That's what you experience when you take the pedestrian way under the train line and now I am downtown Bayreuth:

The lack of respect for the pedestrian's green light offers me the following shot of this old but pristinely maintained OPEL:

Here I am just outside the city's garden:

How privileged one is to have a house here:

One breath away from this:

And while walking in "this" you can enjoy expressive statues like the following one:

Or the serenity of idle water:

No lack of green here in Bayreuth's "Hofgarten":

As usual, where there's water there's bridges too:

Walking here at Bayreuth's Hofgarten is very cleansing. I wish I had proximity to something like this around my neighbourhood:

This recreational garden dates back to the late 16th century but till 1790 you had to be a Markgraf to walk around here. Since Bayreuth became part of Prussia on that year things changed.

You see this pavillion there?

Wait for it c have to cross Hofbrücke first:

This canal splits this place in two:

And makes these guys happy:

So this is actually "The temple of the sun" or at least that's what my non existing German can understand by "Sonnentempel":

However, the place looks more like the kingdom of Green and Water to me:

A pigeon's heaven? Probably:

On the other hand, she doesn't look that happy:

As for myself, I am more than happy now that I am in front of the local New Palace:

Even with the palace in your back your eyes have lots of beauty to look at:

The local fountain with Amphitrite in the middle is unfortunately dry now but still worth a look:

"U talking 2 me?"

Royal doors:

Royal garden:

I have to start making my way back (that's another 5km let me remind you) so I take the last shots of this sweet place:

Here's a summary of 4K clips I shot in here:

Walking back to my place Kreuzstein hotel catches my eye with this full chrome trailer outside:

Non royal but still sweet views on the way on this nice day:

I make a mistake keeping my phone in my pocket thinking I take the right way back but unfortunately this led me to an unnecessary detour of a couple of km so now I am over the train line trying to make a shortcut back to my place:

The local motorcycle store is here but I have no time to check out bikes neither I actually need one anyway:

Sweet views all the way:

On my way back I revisit a place that was closed before when I first passed it (I'm an early bird) so now I see that this used to be a palace and now it's a cafe/beer restaurant:

Still, I would like to know what this thing here is about:

A guy approaches on a bike and I consider him a good target but before I try to ask him he asks me instead something in German. I tell him I am not native and I only speak English except my mother tongue (which is all Greek) so he then asks me in English if I have anything to do with the sign placed next to the road which belongs to the cafe. I don't reply the obvious "how on earth would I ever have anything to do with any sign in Germany being a visitor" as he is super kind. I'll never understand what he might have had in mind...

I do understand as I arrive back at my AirBnB that my host definitely has a feeling for Ancient Greece:

Time for you and me to rest cause I have a long riding day ahead. See you on the next one!
